• La Plata Electric Association Annual Meeting set for May 12, 2012


    All members invited; results of director elections to be announced

    Results of director elections in the four districts of La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) are slated to be announced at the electric cooperative’s Annual Meeting, Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Sky Ute Casino and Resort, Ignacio.

    Annual Meeting registration begins at 9 a.m., with the business meeting commencing at 10:30 a.m. A complimentary luncheon, catered by Sky Ute, follows the meeting. The Annual Meeting is free and open to all member-consumers who pay their electric bill to LPEA.

    In addition to a review of the business of the cooperative and director election results, the meeting will feature Ken Anderson, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc., LPEA’s primary power supplier.

    Director election ballots were mailed to LPEA’s members on April 20, 2012. The approximately 7,600 LPEA members in Archuleta County – District 1 – will elect a representative to the board from a field of tw incumbent J. Robert (Bob) Formwalt and new candidate Kirsten Skeehan.

    Incumbent Jerry McCaw faces new candidate Bruce Baizel in the director election for District 2, which includes approximately 8,200 eligible voters in west and south La Plata County.

    In District 3, which is essentially the City of Durango, new candidate Britt Bassett is challenging incumbent Robert (Bobby) Lieb, Jr., for his seat. District 3 includes approximately 7,300 eligible voters.

    New candidates Heather Erb and Ann McCoy Harold are challenging incumbent Herb Brodsky in District 4. Approximately 7,500 eligible voters are in District 4, which covers north and east La Plata County.

    LPEA member-consumers who attend the Annual Meeting will receive an energy efficient “Smart Strip,” plus a $5 credit on their electric bill. Those who register at the meeting are also eligible for a wide array of door prizes.

    “The Annual Meeting is a terrific opportunity to learn first-hand about the successes of and challenges facing La Plata Electric, as well as visit with the board members in person. We represent the members, and we are interested in everyone’s input,” said Jerry McCaw, LPEA board president.

The LPEA Annual Meeting will be held in the event center to the rear of the resort, and volunteer parking attendants will direct members to the most convenient parking.
