Heat Pump Water Heater Rebate Program

La Plata Electric Association, Inc. (LPEA) members can receive a $700 Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH) Rebate by switching from propane or natural gas to an electric HPWH. $700

Members can also receive a $550 HPWH Rebate by purchasing and installing a Hybrid Water Heater without Fuel Switch (Standard Electric Resistance to HPWH).

HPWHs are electric storage tank units with a built-in air source heat pump. The heat pump absorbs heat from the surrounding air and uses a heat exchanger to heat the water in the tank instead of generating heat directly. They can, therefore, be roughly three times more energy efficient than conventional gas electric resistance water heaters.

Applications will be accepted until April 30th. To be eligible you must be a member of LPEA. Additional savings are available online through The Home Depot.

The HPWH unit purchased must allow for online management via a phone application or web portal. Most models meet this criterion, but please contact us at (970) 382-7770 if you are not sure. The creation of a shared set of credentials for the networked management of the unit is a further requirement to participate in this program. This can be registered to the member's email address, but you must create a password to be shared with LPEA allowing the cooperative access to monitor the HPWHs use for at least one year from the date of acceptance into the pilot program.

Note: On April 30th, LPEA will select up to 30 applicants who meet the specified conditions to receive LPEA's rebates. The standard $350 portion of this rebate will remain available indefinitely.

LPEA and its power supplier Tri-State Generation and Transmission will pay credits to their members for installing electric water heaters, electric heating systems and/or energy efficient motors and commercial energy efficiency lighting upgrades. All credit must be requested with 120 days of installation. Contact LPEA in Durango at (970) 382-3506 or Pagosa Springs at (970) 382-7722 for more information.
