We are undertaking local pilot projects to demonstrate the benefits of electrification and encourage broader adoption across our service area.

First, we are partnering with Habitat for Humanity to construct an affordable, all-electric home in Pagosa Springs. We pledged $25,000 to support installing heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, EnergyStar appliances, battery storage and electric monitoring systems. This will generate performance data that will provide insight for consumers to make educated decisions about going electric.

We are also electrifying two existing homes in Pagosa Springs that previously participated in the CARE program. These will showcase electrification measures like heat pumps and heat pump water heaters.

Our goal is to show that both new and existing homes can be successfully upgraded to all-electric systems. These projects aim to demonstrate how electrification provides comfort, reliability, and lower utility bills for residents.

Habitat recently broke ground on their home using modular techniques for faster and more affordable construction. We have also started the retrofitted upgrades on the two existing homes.

When the projects are complete in late 2023/early 2024, we will share the results with our members. These real-world, local examples will showcase the benefits of electrification for any home.

By successfully demonstrating these techniques locally, we hope to encourage broader electrification adoption across our service territory. Proving they work for different home types will help support community-wide electrification efforts for a more sustainable future.
